At any special occasion, there is great organisation required to achieve the most spectacular outcome and a memorable event for every guest. Whether it be a launch, birthday or wedding celebration, the details always count!

When it comes to fashioning your celebration, a good start is selecting a colour palette and theme for the event. By theme that is not to say there is any 'fancy-dress', it is basically a style that will become the feature of the event, holding together each component of the celebration to achieve an unforgettable image!

The cake is usually featured at the most important point of the event, and so, it must always be carefully considered, be visually appealing and of course heavenly delectable!

Below are some creative, well designed and larger than life cakes, proving to be the centrepiece of any event... undoubtedly the cherry on POP!

POPPY PRINTS!

As the cold sweeps in, we naturally tend to pull out our winter basics and layer up to keep out the incoming chill. Dressing for a function on the weekend, I styled a black and white outfit; a sheer oversized shirt-dress with footless tights, vintage Glo Mesh handbag and patent leather peep toe heels. My styling efforts proved to be a successful look, however lacked colour, therefore lacking that POP! When I got to the function a friend’s outfit caught my eye. Her blue toned floral print dress, knee length with a crop sleeve, was balanced with a contrast high waisted belt, full length tights and lace-up suede platforms. The best thing about her outfit: despite the change in weather her fabulous summer print could still come out to play! Its all about mix and match, grab something old, grab something new, add some leggings and accessories and there’s your quick fix to a weekend wardrobe dilemma!

Modastreets!!!

Out on the hunt to spot a trend, where else better than the University of Technology here in Sydney. Before settling into a workplace dress code, (however there is always something popping for that look too!), students are live displays of the street style of this city, and Modapop is here to bring it to you.

Voluminous skirts!

Exaggerated scale with cinched waistlines with billowing hemlines, this 50’s style Dior inspired look is perfect for the curvy girl! Accentuating a small waist, this look achieves the ultimate hourglass silhouette. Just like our street muse, Sarah, match up your poppy skirt with a crop leather biker jacket, cute flats for day or patent stilettos for the evening! Its fabulous, feminine and fun!

MODapop COATS!

With the winter season slowly creeping upon us, it will soon be time to invest in a new coat. The good thing about coats are, they last a couple of winters, and while it’s all about having wardrobe staples, it’s always nice to get something new for the year.

There is much more colour in coats this coming season, like rustic orange and deep teal, bringing more depth to an outfit. With a coloured jacket, you can bring interest to a monotone outfit or have a more bohemian aesthetic combining with complementary tones, contrasting textures and layering.

My favourite jacket style at the moment is the Mod Coat. Originally khaki in colour, these coats held the codes of freedom, rebellion and eternal youth in British teens of the 60’s. “Modernist” in name, these jackets epitomise new street appeal.

Cropped or trench, these geometric jackets have a unisex appeal, just like your favourite pair of boyfriend jeans or man-style shirt, a great day to day wardrobe must have!

BODY POP!

There is nothing worse than wearing a garment with the wrong underwear. It creates marks and bumps in the wrong places, bringing unwanted attention to areas of the body, changing proportion and fit. For that special garment, whether it be an expensive dress or something picked up with a great price tag, it is most definitely worth investing in some good underwear. Just think of it as another component to the outfit, like shoes or a handbag, except you can wear it over and over again, because nobody can see it!!!

The undergarment of the week here is the Body by Nancy Ganz Bodyslimmers Bust Shaping Body Slip. Yes its a mouthful, but this amazing garment functions as a slip, body slimmer and bra with adjustable and removable straps, all this for $150. Coming in nude and black this item can be worn with anything and everything, making it a popping investment for any wardrobe!

LEATHER SKIRTS!!!

On Sunday my family gathered together for our annual Easter lunch celebrations at my grandparent’s house. On discussing my cousin's upcoming wedding and my joint love for clothing and design with my grandmother, the day proved to be much more fun than I had anticipated. To my delight my grandmother's wardrobe was filled with garments worn at all her children’s weddings, most of which

she had made herself.

It wasn't long until the fashion parade started, the whole family enjoying the journey to a time long ago. It was at that moment, in the midst of sequins, lace, organza and fur, one coat hanger popped out to grab my attention...

on it hung two leather skirts.

The first, a delicious milk chocolate colour, a perfect fit, straight cut with simple detailing and spacious side pockets. The other, a patchwork of textured black leather, slightly longer with adjustable side straps and a more crisp handle. With open arms I accepted these gifts from my grandmother, who saw that there was one other person who could love them as much as her... me!

So I leave you with this task, the next time you want to buy that amazing outfit that you know nobody else will have, visit a grandmother, mother, aunty or anyone else clever enough to have spared some classics, and you will find amongst the hangers that there is that perfect garment waiting for you to

pop on and love!
